Brad Klos
Brad KlosManaging Partner
Brad has 25+ years of experience in the medical device industry at companies including Philips, Micro Therapeutics, IVAC, InnerCool Therapies and Acutus Medical. In addition to his role at Evolve, he is a Managing Partner at E-merge Capital Partners, a venture capital fund focused on investing in early stage medical device technologies.

His career spans across both interventional (cardiology, neurovascular, peripheral vascular and electrophysiology) and surgical (neuro and vascular) specialties as well as drug delivery and temperature management. He has strong domain experience in product marketing, sales management, clinical and regulatory strategy, product development and business development.

Brad earned a BA in International Relations and MBA from the University of San Diego.

Randy Werneth

Randy has over 30 years of experience in both entrepreneurial and Fortune 500 corporations in the medical device industry and has founded several medical device companies including CardioCorX, Acutus Medical, Securus Medical, and Ablation Frontiers. Besides his role at Evolve, Randy is the President and CEO of Maxwell Biomedical.

Randy sits on the board of several venture funded medical device companies in the US and Europe and has more than 70 issued U.S. patents in various medical technology fields.

He holds a B.S. degree in Engineering from Arizona State University and a Masters in Science from UCLA.

Gerard von Hoffmann
Gerard von HoffmannPartner
Gerard was previously a senior partner and Chair of the Medical Device Practice group at Knobbe, Martens, which specializes in all aspects of intellectual property law. Working primarily with startup medical device companies and venture capital firms, Gerard has developed and executed offensive and defensive competitive strategies, infringement studies, ‘design around’ engineering, financings, strategic transactions and patent prosecution. Since 2016, he managed the IP diligence in VC equity financings cumulatively valued in excess of $1.6 Billion, acquisitions and IPO’s cumulatively valued in excess of $3.8 Billion.

Gerard was named one of the “World’s Leading Patent Professionals” in the 2018 Patent 1000 guide for Transactions and Prosecution by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) magazine, and described as “the fulcrum” at the firm, who advises early-stage companies at a “deeply strategic and commercial level”.

He received his Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from Rice University and Occidental College, and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law. He studied international law at the Institute on International and Comparative Law, Oxford University, England.

Rob Abrams

Rob has over 30 years of experience in biomedical device product development, research, operational management, new business development and strategic investments. Rob was an Operating Partner at Sanderling Ventures and CEO of Pulsar Vascular which was acquired by JnJ in 2016.

Prior to joining Sanderling, Rob was at Boston Scientific Corp. as Group Vice President of New Business Development for BSC’s Cardiovascular Group Divisions, which included Neurovascular, Cardiac Surgery, Neuromodulation, Electrophysiology, and Peripheral Interventional Divisions. At BSC, Rob completed the acquisition of Smart Therapeutics, Inc. for intracranial stents and other minimally invasive access devices, Precision Vascular Systems, Inc. and several neuromodulation companies including Advanced Bionics Corp.

Rob served in various roles at Target Therapeutics, Localmed, Howmedica and Guidant and has 65 issued patents in various medical device fields. He earned dual degrees in mechanical and biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dave Matsuura
Dave MatsuuraPartner
Dave has 40+ years of experience in the medical instrument and device industry involving product development, engineering management, design engineering and manufacturing. He specializes in the conceptual design of medical devices, medical device systems, and the creation of intellectual property.

Dave has conceptualized and developed several products for the orthopedic, urology, drug delivery and the cardiovascular markets. These include stem cell processing technology, in vitro diagnostic instruments, surgical robotics, POC diagnostics, orthopedic implants surgical tools, and has extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery, optics, and anatomic visualization.

Dave is named as an inventor on 50+ US patents and has multiple patents pending. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University.
